Four part framing statement

First learning outcome:

Throughout English 110 we have worked on the ability to revise and rework our pieces into  free flowing and well constructed pieces of art. I have learned how to construct a substantial first draft which will allow me to spend time working with the flow of my essay rather than looking for more ideas to reach word count. I found through the recursive writing process I was able to develop stronger arguments within my essay because the more time I spent interacting with the sources and my text the better understanding I have of the scope of my essay and what arguments I can better develop in my essay.

Second learning outcome:

As the year has progressed I feel so has my writing and my ability to integrate evidence into my essay in a nature that flows with my previous sentences and supports my argument. In class I have been able to use sources from video to song lyrics and I think this is why my writing has progressed. In my “Lets Talk About Art” project I incorporated lyrics from songs by J Cole and Logic to support my argument for arts place in society. ”

In J. Coles song, “Crooked Smile” he voices his opinion on the issue of appearance shaming in american media. In his lyrics,

Love yourself, girl, or nobody will

Oh, you a woman? I don’t know how you deal

With all the pressure to look impressive and go out in heels

I feel for you

Killing yourself to find a man that’ll kill for you

You wake up, put makeup on

Stare in the mirror but its clear that you can’t face what’s wrong

No need to fix what God already put his paint brush on

Your roommate yelling, “Why you gotta take so long?”

What it’s like to have a crooked smile”

Cole’s lyrics strike home to many listeners as he uses his lyrics to paint a vivid picture of the influence society has on our mental health. By spreading awareness through his music J. Cole prevents important issues from going unnoticed.
